For Science and History, I allow my kids to have a lot more say in what topic to cover and what type of curriculum they would like to use. This school year, we found Nature School, which covers different biomes located around the world. The Nature School Reader has an accompanying Journal in two different levels: K-3 or 3+. Definitely flexible for bouncing around between biomes.
Pros to this Science Curriculum
Journals:
-Journals are designed in such a way that the answers can be written as short response or long response
-Journals offer lots of opportunities for drawing and labeling
-Follows the order of the reader
Nature School Reader
-Easy to comprehend, even for the youngest of students, with short passages
-Colorful pictures and diagrams
-Broken down by each element that makes up the biome
-Offers a variety of activities to get out in nature and explore
With this curriculum, I incorporate a project that the students have to complete to emphasize presentation building and teamwork.
